Engineering FAQ

Questions from Lighting Project Buyers

What is the typical sample lead time for a custom LED cable assembly?

Standard connector samples are normally prepared in 3–7 working days. Custom overmolded cable assemblies generally require 7–15 working days after the drawing, pinout, cable specification and tooling requirements are confirmed.

Are the connectors suitable for outdoor UV and weather exposure?

Yes. UV-resistant cable and housing materials can be specified for outdoor lighting projects. PUR, rubber or project-specific jacket materials are selected according to sunlight exposure, temperature, bending frequency and chemical conditions.

Can you provide outgoing inspection and test reports?

Yes. Available quality records can include pin-to-pin continuity, insulation resistance, dielectric strength, airtightness or waterproof testing, dimensional inspection and batch traceability according to the approved inspection plan.

Global Inquiry & Customer Message

Outdoor LED lighting, street lamps, architectural lighting and greenhouse grow lights need connections that remain reliable through rain, dust, temperature changes and repeated maintenance. CONNIXTECH supplies waterproof circular connectors and custom cable assemblies for power, control and multi-branch lighting systems.

This guide explains the electrical, environmental and cable details to review before choosing a connector. The final configuration should be confirmed against the approved drawing and tested in the finished luminaire or lighting system.

What Outdoor Lighting Connections Must Handle

A lighting connector is part of a complete sealed system. Engineers should define whether the target ingress protection applies only while mated or also while disconnected. Cable outer diameter, gland compression, panel sealing, assembly torque and enclosure design all influence the result.

  • Rain, dust, condensation and washdown exposure
  • UV, temperature cycling and outdoor cable ageing
  • Operating voltage, current and inrush requirements
  • Secure locking under vibration and cable movement
  • Installation space, service access and mating frequency
  • Protection requirements when connectors are unmated

Power and Control Connections

Two- and three-pole connectors are common starting points for AC or DC power, while additional contacts may be required for dimming, sensing or control. Contact count alone is not enough: voltage, conductor size, temperature rise, clearance and local safety requirements must be reviewed for the actual equipment.

For compact threaded connections, compare the threaded M12 waterproof connector. For higher-current lighting or distribution equipment, the SL M25 2-pin 40A connector is a useful reference configuration.

Splitters, Branches and Daisy-Chain Harnesses

Street lights, greenhouse rows and architectural installations often use splitters or daisy-chain wiring to reduce field termination. A custom harness can combine one input with multiple outputs, defined branch lengths, labels and installation-ready terminations. Branch current, voltage drop and the loading of the complete circuit should be calculated before production.

See our custom cable assembly example and waterproof cable assembly service for project-specific options.

Cable and Material Selection

PVC, PUR and TPE cable jackets offer different balances of cost, flexibility, abrasion resistance, temperature capability and chemical resistance. The choice should match the installation rather than a generic outdoor label. Specify conductor cross-section, cable outer diameter, flexing conditions, minimum bend radius and any flame-retardant or certification requirements.

Connector Selection Checklist

  • AC or DC voltage, continuous current and inrush current
  • Number of power, control and grounding contacts
  • Required sealing condition while mated and unmated
  • Cable type, conductor size, jacket and outer diameter
  • Panel mount, inline, splitter or pre-wired harness format
  • UV, temperature, abrasion and chemical exposure
  • Required cable lengths, branch dimensions and labels
  • Prototype quantity, annual volume and target schedule

Engineering Q&A

How should I choose between IP67 and IP68?

Check the ingress rating for the exact mated or capped configuration and its IEC 60529 test conditions. IP67 and IP68 use different water exposure tests; confirm the required depth, duration, sealing and installation conditions on the approved drawing.

Does this connector support high-voltage shielding or HVIL?

Shielding and high-voltage interlock are not established for every connector configuration. Send the system voltage, shielding termination and HVIL pinout for engineering review before specifying either feature.

What are the sample and custom cable assembly lead times?

Sample and custom production timing is confirmed after review of the drawing, cable specification, quantity, tooling needs and validation plan. Share these requirements with CONNIXTECH for a project-specific schedule.
