AGV & Mobile Robot Connectors

ENGINEERING QUICK FACTS

CONNIXTECH AGV and mobile robot connectors support battery, motor and sensor wiring in moving equipment. Electrical ratings, mating duty and IEC 60529 ingress class depend on the selected product and approved harness drawing.

AGVs, AMRs and mobile robots depend on reliable connections for charging, battery power, motors, sensors, controllers and communication devices. CONNIXTECH supplies waterproof connectors and custom cable assemblies for moving equipment that must operate through vibration, dust, moisture and frequent maintenance.

This application guide outlines the main electrical and mechanical decisions for mobile robot connections. Final connector and cable choices should be confirmed against the approved drawing, equipment load profile and validation tests.

Connection Challenges in Mobile Equipment

Robot wiring is exposed to motion, vibration and tight routing spaces. The connector, backshell, cable and strain relief should be reviewed as one system. Cable bend radius, service loops and attachment points can influence conductor fatigue and connector loading over time.

  • Continuous and peak current for batteries and drive motors
  • Power, signal, Ethernet or combined contact layouts
  • Vibration resistance and secure mechanical locking
  • Dynamic flexing, bend radius and abrasion exposure
  • EMC, shielding and grounding requirements
  • Fast replacement and error-proof maintenance
  • Water and dust protection in the real installation

Charging and Battery Interfaces

Charging and battery connections must be selected using the real continuous current, peak current, duty cycle, contact resistance and allowable temperature rise. Combined power-and-signal layouts can support interlock, sensing or communication while reducing the number of separate interfaces.

Review the M23 2+4 power-and-signal connector and SL M25 2-pin 40A connector as starting references. Suitability depends on the approved thermal, electrical and mechanical requirements.

Sensors, Actuators and Control Connections

M12-style interfaces are widely used around sensors, actuators and industrial control equipment. The required coding, pin count, shielding and protocol should be confirmed before selection. Compare the threaded M12 waterproof connector and metal M12 connector for different mechanical and shielding needs.

Custom Robot Cable Harnesses

A pre-assembled harness can connect the controller, motors, sensors, battery and charging interface while simplifying robot assembly. CONNIXTECH can support project-specific cable lengths, branch points, labels, shielding, jackets and opposite-end terminations.

Design and Validation Checklist

  • Rated voltage, continuous current and peak load profile
  • Power, signal and communication contact requirements
  • Cable conductor size, shielding, jacket and outer diameter
  • Static routing or dynamic flexing conditions
  • Minimum bend radius, service loop and strain-relief position
  • Dust, water, temperature, oil and chemical exposure
  • Mating cycles, maintenance access and keying requirements
  • Prototype quantity, annual demand and validation schedule

Prototype assemblies should be tested in the finished robot for electrical load, temperature rise, vibration, flexing, sealing and service procedures. Datasheet ratings alone do not replace application-level validation.

Engineering Q&A

How should I choose between IP67 and IP68?

Check the ingress rating for the exact mated or capped configuration and its IEC 60529 test conditions. IP67 and IP68 use different water exposure tests; confirm the required depth, duration, sealing and installation conditions on the approved drawing.

Does this connector support high-voltage shielding or HVIL?

Shielding and high-voltage interlock are not established for every connector configuration. Send the system voltage, shielding termination and HVIL pinout for engineering review before specifying either feature.

What are the sample and custom cable assembly lead times?

Sample and custom production timing is confirmed after review of the drawing, cable specification, quantity, tooling needs and validation plan. Share these requirements with CONNIXTECH for a project-specific schedule.
